Google Ads for landscapers can reach people looking for lawn care, garden maintenance or a new landscape design. Choose the work your team can take on. Then build each group of ads around one service.
1. Organize your campaign by service
Start with a Search campaign: these are text ads in Google search results. Create an ad group for each service, with its own keywords and ads.
| Ad group | Example keywords | Ad message |
|---|---|---|
| Garden maintenance | garden maintenance service ; yard cleanup | Explain visits and the area you cover. |
| Lawn mowing | lawn mowing service ; lawn care near me | Offer one-time or regular lawn care. |
| Landscape design | landscape design service ; garden design | Invite the customer to discuss a project. |
| Planting | hedge planting service ; landscape planting | Describe the planting work you provide. |
Keep the groups that match your services. They share the campaign budget. Google explains this structure.
Performance Max can also show ads across other Google channels, such as YouTube; consider it only as an addition if your budget allows.
2. Choose words your customers use
Think like the customer: what problem would they type into Google? These ten starting ideas belong in the matching service groups.
| Keyword to use | Why | Leave out if… |
|---|---|---|
| garden maintenance service ; yard cleanup | Book help with garden upkeep. | You only offer design projects. |
| lawn mowing service ; lawn care near me | Find lawn care. | You do not mow lawns. |
| landscape design service ; garden design | Plan a new landscape. | You only offer maintenance. |
| hedge planting service ; landscape planting | Hire help with planting. | You do not offer planting. |
| local landscaper ; commercial landscaping service | Find a local service provider. | The location or customer type does not fit. |
Start with exact and phrase match: these options focus on searches close to the service you choose. About ten keywords are a useful starting point for reviewing inquiries.
If a few narrow keywords limit delivery, add relevant searches or try phrase match. Check other possible causes in our guide to a Google Ads campaign not spending.
3. Filter searches that do not fit your work
Negative keywords help filter unwanted searches. Start with these ideas while keeping searches that fit your work.
| Exclusion | Why | Only if… |
|---|---|---|
| landscaping jobs ; landscaping course | Looking for work or training. | This campaign is for customers. |
| free garden plans ; DIY landscaping | Looking for plans or instructions. | You sell work carried out for customers. |
| plants for sale ; tree removal | Buying plants or hiring tree removal. | You do not offer either service. |
Do not exclude every use of “free” if you offer a free estimate. See Google’s negative keyword help.
4. Write an ad for each service
Name the service, explain the next step and send the customer to the right page. Use these two examples as a starting point.
Tell us what your garden needs and check the area we cover.
Describe your landscape project and arrange an initial conversation.
A mowing page should explain the service area and what a visit includes. A design page should show real projects and explain how to start a consultation.
5. Set a simple budget
For example, $20 a day is about $600 a month. This illustrates a test budget; it is not a recommended amount for every business.
Choose an amount the business can afford to test. Actual daily spend can vary; Google explains its spending limits. Keep advertising spend separate from software fees.
6. Check hours, service area and inquiries
Match the ads to the weather and the work your crew can accept. A full mowing schedule may leave little room for extra cleanup jobs. Change the advertised service when the actual offer changes.
University of Minnesota Extension provides a lawn-care calendar for Minnesota. Use local guidance for your climate rather than treating it as a calendar for every US state.
- Test the phone number and form on your mobile.
- Make the service area easy to find.
- Record whether each inquiry fits work you can accept.
